Known Problems

For known problems with Sophie 1.0, see our known problems page.

Important Privacy Notice for Sophie Users

The Sophie software application sends notification of errors to a member of the Sophie technical team. Those error notifications include stack traces which, depending on the error, may include information from your machine, including part of the content of the book you were working in, a path to a book, a path to a resource, or the path to your Sophie application. We use this information for debugging purposes only - nothing else.

Getting Started tutorial

There's a new tutorial on the tutorials page on getting started in Sophie. It covers the basics of the Sophie interface, how to get resources into Sophie, and making your first Sophie book. We hope it's helpful . . .

Sophie 1.0 is out

Sophie 1.0 is out now: go to the download page to download it. There's also updated documentation and demo books. For a list of bugs in Sophie 1.0 that we know and about and are working on fixing, you can go to the known problems page.

Here's RC16

Another day, another release candidate: download RC16. There's documentation to go with it, and a new video over in the tutorials section that explains spellchecking.

. . . and RC13 is out

We've put RC13 on the download page. This fixes some of the bugs in RC12, most notably not being able to select text in Reader/test mode. Enjoy!

Demo Books

Here are a few examples of Sophie in action. While the form of these books will be familiar to anyone who has seen multimedia documents, what is new here is how these were made – by one person, not a programmer, in hours not days. These are demos and as such they are not complete. Not all links are active, movies may be short stubs, etc.

When you've finished downloading each book, unzip the file and open it in Sophie. Look at these in Test mode (by checking the little box at the bottom right of the book window) or in Sophie Reader.
